As with all of Katie Schottland’s (she is swimming belle) output ‘1988’ has an economy of effort, which is nonetheless able to stir something inside the listener. Truth be told it could easily slip you by but in attending to the quiet sound the quality becomes obvious. Something uniquely giving in a me, me, me world. Not trying to be anyone else except the act who played music in their garage years ago. ‘1988’ is full of precious memories and more importantly melodies that we’ll carry in our heads until bedtime. Expect more of the same from Swimming Bell’s new album ‘Wild Sight’, which is coming next month. KH
