Amusement Parks On Fire come to Dublin tonight thanks to the Club AC30 crew so if you are partial to some Swervedriver/Ride/Revolver soundscapes it could make for a great night out. APOF has been Nottingham’s Michael Ferrick project for several years, originally starting out on his own a group has gradually been sworn in to add the requisite muscle for his incendiary visions. The band’s calling card is the molten guitar exchanges that frequently attempt to strangle the life out of Ferrick’s vocals. They don’t succeed and the pitched battle is what makes their second album ‘Out of Angelus’ such an enjoyable shoegaze experience. Thankfully they have their moments of introspection too to counteract the threat of tinnitus. One such track is ‘At Last The Night’ (quite appropriate too given how much the AC30’ers are looking forward to tonight’s gig) which is awash with Sigur Ros-esque orchestral manoeuvres, dreamy voices and tailored jangle. Cracking band… I do love a bit of amusement parks on fire… Keep hugging!
Haven’t heard this lot before. One of the best band names I’ve heard in a while, and a very nice track. I like!
