‘Violence at Hyperion’ has the the punk spirit of the Boomtown Rats with the glam of Marc Bolan & T-Rex. Yep this sure is nostalgia alright and done with plenty of panache. Chicago’s the Voluptuals operate so it never feels like pastiche or overegged copycatism, there is a bounce and a rhythm that will be a boon for those on the lookout for energetic antics of the classic kind. I wasn’t expecting to but the relentless approach won me over eventually. Expect more of the on the band’s debut LP ‘Terminal Patience’. KH
