Echo Ladies – Overrated

This 3-piece Swedish act make no qualms about comparing themselves to the shoegaze acts of yore and ‘Overrated’ doesn’t pale in comparison because it feels authentic, right down to the almost buried out of sight but central to the success of the tune vocals. It most reminds me of Slowdive (with perhaps Liz Frazer rather than Rachel Goswell on vocals) capturing their immersive qualities, especially so when deployed on headphones where the effect is one of taking a leap into space, infinity and beyond. I’m old enough to remember the arrival of the original shoegaze and so not often taken by new incarnations but this is so wholly embedded in the fabric of that original sound. When the sun hits this song will play out across the land. KH
