A moniker to catch the eye (and it was Stereolab’s Le Boob inspired) and a chiming chord to catch the ear. Yep, ‘Newlands’ boasts a genuine 90’s aesthetic with more than a little Teenage Fanclub circa ‘Grand Prix’ driving proceedings at its most honeyed moments. And this Norwegian act conspire to imagine lots of them, cascading forwards on a bed of chiming chords and those fey boy vocals from KÃ¥re Eriksen. It’s been done before but rarely have newer bands added an aching sense of themselves to proceedings like here. Means that Oslo Oscillator’s debut LP ‘City Nomads’ should be a thing of joy. KH
