Sporting a languid set of chords and a voice that is akin to a siren tempting sailors from a safe deck and into icy waters below. Funny that, given that Valdez has pinned her inspiration squarely on the eerie beauty of the Nevada desert, which she grew up close to. ‘It’s Alright’ is beautifully produced but still manages to sound artfully lo-fi. This means you can pick out all the moving parts in their warm sepia-tinged harmony. Throw me a life-jacket, I’m already splashing about for dear life. KH
