It hasn’t been a good year for post-rock, I’ve heard the promo track from Mogwai’s newbie and now I can’t even bring myself to listen to it. Fresh pastures are required and right now one of the most promising comes from north of the border. Belfast to be precise courtesy of a band called And So I Watch You From Afar. With a new LP waiting in the wings and a fabulous debut EP ‘This Is Our Machine And Nothing Can Stop It’ under their belts ASIWUFA could soon be straddling up beside the great instrumental acts of our time. Explosions In The Sky have already set the benchmark but epics like ‘The Voiceless’ signal something very substantial could be on the way. In fact it so impressed one of the best publications on this island, AU Magazine, that it crept into the Top 10 of their list of favourite 50 songs since their inception. Expect much longer queues at the ticket office once they play Whelan’s on November 23rd. KD
