The sophomore slump has truly set in for London band Yuck with critics who had earlier praised their nascent grasp of the best the 90’s now bemoaning the lack of Daniel Blumberg on album number two ‘Glow & Behold’. With Max Bloom now firmly installed as chief vocalist there is still much to enjoy however as his soft trip through ‘Memorial Fields’ illustrates. Sure it might lack edge or boundless creativity but that sort of thing doesn’t feel quite appropriate for a Sunday morning anyway. Instead you have a grouping of gentle chords, a slow strumming momentum and Bloom patching all the loveliness together with his soft yet distant vocals. And who could resist those brass parts at the end which can’t help but usher in a sun filled new dawn. Beautiful. KD
