In what could have been a serious case of eggnog all over their collective faces the Shins have gone and taken on the endlessly cheery ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ by Paul McCartney. Thankfully they’ve decided to spice things up by styling it a la the Beach Boys which means the veneer has a perennial finish rather than one that starts to flake come New Year’s Eve. The cover is taken from a new collection called ‘Holidays Rule’ (brewed by Starbucks) which also features McCartney himself offering a loungey take on ‘The Christmas Song’. Great to see Heartless Bastards, Sharon Van Etten and Andrew Bird in there too, offering some balance to the general saccharine overload. KD
