Lord Huron – Brother (Last Ride)

In what has probably been the worst year for indie music albums since this blog began, 7 years ago, it thankfully appears as if 2012 has at last got its act together. And to the recent triumphs of Toy’s eponymous debut and Tame Impala’s ‘Lonerism’ we can now add Lord Huron’s joyful ‘Lonesome Dreams’. ‘Time To Run’ has already beguiled us but Ben Schneider’s first LP harbours 9 other near faultless sepia tinged nuggets. To this extent you may well have surmised that ‘Lonesome Dreams’ could well appeal to Fleet Foxes fans, and you’d be right but Lord Huron tends to infuse a bit more tropicality into their efforts. This makes it splendid beachfront audio or an able ally in keeping the worst excesses of winter at bay. ‘Brother (Last Ride)’ is as affecting as intended, even if it is packaged in a colourful frothy swirl.
