This is straight out of the Teenage Fanclub handbook so it’s hardly surprising that 18 Wheeler (or Wheeler 18 if you’re the English PM) came from Glasgow and were signed to Creation Records. This was the 1990’s when Alan McGee’s label was the touchstone for quality jangling indie (he also discovered Oasis btw, the very night in Glasgow when they were supporting none other than 18 Wheeler). Tragically for the Sean Jackson outfit their greatest success came in 1997 as they turned their hand to a dancier angle (album #3 ‘Year Zero’) leaving behind the perfectly formed tunes of their debut ‘Twin Action’. Nothing else they did quite compared to ‘Suncrush’ and ‘Nature Girl’ which were so openly tunesome and loveable they are now used as examples for ‘perfect little nugget’ in the indie dictionary. KD
