I might be wrong but this sounds like very early Boo Radleys. The bit where the discordant noise was louder than the vocals but you could still hum along to the resultant haze. Gazelle are a much more contemporary proposition (even if its playmates are longish of tooth) but their time machine is locked in on 1991. I’m hoping the techies never remedy this quirk because ‘First Rays’ is a wallowing delight that switches allegience towards the end when ambient waters shimmer over a more distinct vocal output. If this wets your tastebuds there’s lots more to savour on Gazelle’s ‘Sunblown’ album of last year. KD
