This is as sepia toned as the zeitgeist gets, a contemporary strand of home baked psychedelia as pioneered by Panda Bear that is showing decent longevity. New Animal are from Atlanta and have appeared from the sky with a monster 15 track debut album that is being given away completely for free (charging for the individual tracks but not for the whole shebang ““ the music industry sits up and wonders whether they’ve somehow arrived at the cure for all its ailments). There are so many delights on this eponymous release it is difficult to choose the best showcase. ‘Other Side’ is certainly an unrestrained joy, bringing to mind the aforementioned PB, Liverpool chancers Clinic and Lazer Guided Melodies era Spiritualized. Elsewhere ‘Last Winter’ just pulls heartstrings the way others pull faces. Yep, something completely wicked this way comes. KD
