I’ve broken rank before the voting section and let Mrs Hugger soak up the atmospherics of the Romanian entry all on her own. With so much eurotunnel schlock being showcased my ears needed an audio holiday and Meursault stepped into the breach with this James Yorkstonesque jewel. It’s taken from their second album ‘All Creatures Will Make Merry’ (released on good old Song, By Toad Records, a label/blog we’ve become increasingly jealous of) and marks an about turn for the Edinburgh collective (all fashioned out with new band members and unexpected but welcome digital alliances). If anything Meursault v2 is more appealing than their first incarnation, the songs sound more robust and affecting. ‘Sleet’ barely registers on the richer scale but should nonetheless move you. KD
