So here is a quick summary, band forms in Leeds by two schoolteachers in 1984. Immediately noticed by John Peel and after doing a session for him they release their debut album with iconic footballer on the front sleeve. Songs have a consistent theme of boy meets girl, girl dumps boy and boy feels sad. In 1992 they make the Guinness book of records by releasing a new song every month with each one breaking the top 30. Top boy finds love in 1998 and starts a new band with her. 7 years later the inevitable happens and he reconstitutes his old band in order to purge his aching crumpled frame of all that heartbreak. ‘Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft’ is quintessential Wedding Present taken from ‘George Best’ with Gedge’s monotone delivery and a flotilla of chiming guitars on speed.
