The Innocence Mission may have been pared down since their original formation in 1989 but the slings and arrows of the music industry have reduced the band to making finely sculpted noise for a living. And what a dreamy concoction the Innocence Mission’s 9th album ‘We Walked In Song’ truly is. Short of meaningless clutter Karen Peris’s singing is given free reign over the sparse instrumentation (provided in part by her husband Don). The effect of her spectral utterances on songs like ‘Love That Boy’ is enough to stop you in your tracks and conjures fond memories of a lost Harriet Wheeler. Fragility on this level is rarely captured on record but last year’s recording sessions in Lancaster could yet be spoken about in hushed tones. KD

Thanks for this. The only other Innocence Mission song I’ve heard is “There” which is AMAZING. Looking forwerd to something new.
The more I hear from them, the more I realise how special they are.
