Simon Taylor – Northern Star

Oh the romance of it all, I mean ‘Northern Star’ has late night waltz after a few drinks about it – initially it had me thinking the Pogues’ ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’. Simon just adds fuel to that fire emanating from a thousand hearts because he speaks the language of love that anyone who has experienced will relate to. The playing has a certain ramshackle aspect but there is a lushness too so we know we are in the presence of someone who has the technical side of things mapped out. What is most fetching however is that this Newcastle act has also the human connection down too, that essential thread of relationship that once there can easily sellotape over every other conceivable crack in our fragile existence.
