It was to Mercury Rev that my remembrances turned on hearing the psychedelic swirl of those early ‘Speak in the Day’ passages. Seems that Hello Echo had more in their locker besides and it came in the form of a jangle filled anthemic spree that gave us a lead singer with the most elegant of approaches. Not above whoop as he goes but that is understandable given the barely concealed fervour of the piece. The undertow comes to the surface time and again so we’re clear that holding back is not on Hello Echo’s agenda. This is romance alright and I certainly want in on cupid’s crosshairs this time around. KH
