J.S. Mahlon – Childhood

This is folk that gets the genre back to its basics, namely introspection by the fireside with an acoustic guitar worked ever so tenderly. J.S. Mahlon (LA’s Jake Schweitzer) gets us on side early on and impressively keeps us there for the extent of ‘Childhood’ as things take on a slightly different bent as it progresses. A sort of growing up before our very ears and it had me thinking that this act might just have captured what made Frightened Rabbit and Sigur Ros so special in the first place. This is low-ebbed drama as ‘Childhood’ completely pivots in the second half in a manner that has us believing it’s the early 70’s again. KH
