Talk about lively, talk about giddy and full of percussive action – topped off of course by a singer who a sense of soulful destiny. Yep. we had only got to the half minute mark and already Darkstates had taken over to a degree that the whole ambience of our day had changed. I could hear some trip-hop action but there is ambition here to take this act beyond those exalted walls and into a genre of their own making. There were vestiges of dance-era Everything But The Girl and the subtlety of ‘Rest My Hands’ just consistently gave us reasons to defer to its majesty. A remarkable work from the London producer and singer Clara Pople. KH
