I’ve been listening to Canada’s the Sylvia Platters for some time now and with each new iteration I come away saying to myself that they are our type of band. ‘Severance’ is no different, a form of Belle & Sebastian and indeed the Bats in the way the chorus is so pop induced and gunning for whatever love remains aorta-side. It comes across so effortless for them, a sort of ramshackle that coalesces into prime moments where they take a trip towards indie pop heaven. It’s a gift that they have and one that gets us every time. KH
