The way they take up on ‘Beautiful Everything’ you can just tell that Astral Bakers take this music making game seriously because that cascading chord sequence is enough to get us out of January hibernation all on its own. That things are augmented by a singer (Ambroise Willaume) who knows that in order for romance to thrive it needs to be kept alive by imaginative thought processes. So there are swoonful twists and turns but always deployed with an ear for melody. A French band who are arty, experimental but always retaining the shape of melodious song. KH
