Mary Middlefield – Atlantis

Takes a certain kind of talent to be able to move the listener by stripping a tune back to its very essentials but Zurich’s Mary Middlefield is a contemporary lesson in how to achieve it. There is pop nuance for sure, but done in a manner that is positively ambient and post-acoustic to effect the sound of cascading water but from the hand of someone who is capable of evoking suppressed human instinct. A success of quietly epic proportions, but also a treat for those who have forgotten how to dream for ‘Atlantis’ spurs us on and/or back to when every day brought a renewed opportunity to feel the wonder of life all over again. And a chorus to die for. KH
