Maida Rose – Anymore

The Dutch duo (Javièr den Leeuw and Roos Meijer) Maida Rose operate in and around the usual narrow lines of indiedom, they do so on two fronts with subject matter way beyond stock and with it the purest form of swoonsome song imaginable. So ‘Anymore’ gives us insights into mental health and does so with the most empathetic of performances and arrangements which could have come from a classical composer. The melodies and harmonies arrive steadily and once again we are reduced to a kid on Christmas morning after everything on the list has appeared under the tree and all we can do is to thank the world for being so kind to us. ‘Anymore’ is a heartfelt swell of emotion and marks the greatest thing that Maida Rose have produced on their faultless journey to becoming one of the best acts around. I haven’t heard anything as beautiful all year. KH
