‘Year of the Rat’ moves us clear of the ordinary, both in terms of the thought processes proffered but also in the arrangements that have a dreamy kind of sweetness that will always strike a chord in our 90’s loving hearts. Yes, I heard Camera Obscura and Alvvays among others and that means we were always likely to go weak around the knees as the combination of tropical playing and ethereal instructioning hit its stride. And to cap it all Plastic Cactus prove that they can be as noisy as hell too, so the best of both worlds captured in less than 4 minutes.
