The Loving Arms – If This Is How It Ends

Would I be right in thinking we’ve entered serious territory here? I think so but New Zealand’s the Loving Arms make it so that all that sombre toning is also a bit soothing too in a ‘Get By With A Little Help From My Friends’ kind of way. I certainly drew comfort from it and that is even when it pulled no punches and issued plenty of home truths. Of course the fact that it has been rendered so melodically sweet means that we could stomach anything. Quite simply ‘If This Is How It Ends’ sounds effortless, classic sounding but never feeling that it is leaning on anything else that its own nose for perfect songcraft. KH
