I do like the way Dublin’s Soft on Crime have stripped things back and they sound all the more real as a result. In fact ‘Favourite Band’ has the ring of a work that comes from another time altogether, more innocent and unspoilt when we treasured the little we had rather than the everything that we didn’t. Slow cooked but with a riot in there that tells us that behind it all there is moshpit waiting to explode into joyous action. The essence and joy of music is captured and suddenly we feel all young and enthusiastic again. KH
