There is a weight being hauled here, but there are few acts who bear it as well as the Hudson Branch because of their subtle pop qualities that steer clear of the tried and trusted. Maybe it is because the four-piece grown up in the 10 years since they last recorded music. There are echoes of Villagers for sure, the thoughtful pensive style but never at the expense of song and so there will be much swaying in time with this warm hearted effort. Best to let ‘Misplaced Mirror’ offer up a reflection that has us coming out the other side feeling renewed. Effortless stuff. KH
