Baker Island – What Did Your Last Savant Die Of?

First of all I love that title and the attendant noise ain’t too bad either, sure does have a guitar entourage that reminds of the Wedding Present (the title almost maps directly to a track from their ‘George Best’) but of course Baker Island have other ideas when it comes to adding words on top. To a degree that is because there is an orderly chaos to ‘What Did Your Last Savant Die Of?’ and really the whole effect encapsulates the joy of 90’s revisionism that Newcastle’s Baker Island are all about and I just can’t get enough of it. May they forever be their ramshackle selves. KH
