The sort of string arrangement that would remind of the Velvet Underground so we knew from early doors that Green Gardens were all about mixing things up in a fashion that was non-conventional. That they can get straight to the heart of folk matters is instructive too for ‘Year of Love’ might be slow of progression but it carries with a degree of romance to could power Valentine’s all by itself. The kind of slow rock that conditions us to back up and appreciate what we have first, before streaking off in search of the unattainable. An important lesson from this Leeds crew and by extension a song to keep by our side. KH
