Asparagus – 2004 Eric

Just like shoegaze, another genre from the stable of 90’s genres slacker rock appears to have taken on a second life of late and Eau Claire’s Asparagus appear prime movers in that regard. We’ve already fallen for them and it is easy to see why thanks to the matter in which ‘2004 Eric’ takes on a noisy but slow chord crunching form. The trick of course is to heap the melodic side in there amid the din of guitars and in that regard this track is a prime mover. You’d be thinking Pavement in the first instance but given the rate at which they are progressing you’d also be putting Asparagus in as one of your 5-a-day. KH
