Well this is taking the Bon Iver template to its logical conclusion, total desolation in terms of recording spaces (Alaska) but where Izzy Rabbit thrives is in finding warmth in that remote place and it says to me that there is a pop heart to his work that cannot be contained. And that is most apparent when this introspection goes all jaunty and near danceable in its unexpected diversion into groove. So ‘Happiest On The Own’ throws our expectations to the wolves and we’re delighted with that turn of events. KH
