Chris Staples – About A Girl

I only really got into this Nirvana track via the ‘MTV Unplugged’ LP rather than ‘Bleach’ but both are worth investigating so I was intrigued as to hear what Chris Staples could do with such a classic. He has certainly added a bit of lounge cool to the piece so gone are every vestige of that grunge sound and in its place a rather more tropical mannerism. And it is a measure of this act’s talent that he makes it work ever so well, this is a cover that needed to happen because it not only showcases the quality of the original but how it could be reinterpreted into something that stands up in its own right.
