An opening that feels all the world like we’ve entered ‘Bryter Layter’ territory but only if Vashti Bunyan rather than Nick Drake has taken to the mic. Of course that means a whole lot of magic, not least because ‘Temperance’ has such a wonderful flow. So we’re in folk territory but with all the trimmings, namely a guiding light of a vocal from Melissa Lingo and instrumental flourishes at every turn. Sure it does hark back to another time but how beautifully nostalgia it all sounds and in the process gives of one of folk’s most prized numbers this year. KH
