The Kickdrums – Pretend

The thought did strike me that we have to go back and start listening to James again for ‘Pretend’ has their way of being. Namely a singer who can variate between deepest thought and high anthemic exclaim and it means the Kickdrums (Cleveland’s Alex Fitts) make for a proposition that could be all things to all people. The thinkers, the activists and everyone in-between. Of course this is a good thing and ‘Pretend’ makes for a visceral listen, bristling with intention and boasting a chorus that already feels like something we’ll be returning to endlessly. KH
