It didn’t surprise me in the least that Sour Blood came to us with something odd, off-kilter but with a rare soul. It’s as if Kevin Gleeson is mining a part of the psyche that music rarely ventures to these days but if you were looking for contemporaries ‘Mysterious Creatures’ has the gait of a Thom Yorke work. It is involving stuff, near orchestral at times but fully electronic in terms of the tools employed. Everything hangs together seamlessly even if it resembles the workings of a cuckoo clock at times. I felt pushed but the gravitational pull was such that Sour Blood have again wrestled a delight from unexpected quarters. The ‘Suas’ LP is out now. KH
