Califone – burn the sheets.bleach the books

Despite being on the go since 1997 it is clear that Chicago’s Califone (Tim Rutili and friends) have lost none of youthful vigour. This is intense 90’s inspired post-shoegaze stuff but the kind that doesn’t leave anyone behind at the same time. Reminded me of Irish act Rollerskate Skinny in particular, a noisy crew who were capable of taking it to the next level on stage. I can only imagine how noisy ‘burn the sheets.bleach the books’ would be when performed live but there is an element of Velvet Underground that might just contain all those more incendiary moments. A blaze of glory then, heartening produce from 2024. KH
