There is a melancholy drift for sure, the embers of a relationship causing Small Shake to get with their feelings and it makes for a piece of woe-pop that still can’t hide their inclination for melodic turns that set them apart from their peers. Factor in little country vignettes in the playing, the off-kilter momentum that has a psychedelic drift and you get a work that could be folk to some but is rich ballad to others. Whatever way it floats your boat the point is that it feels like we’ve got a keeper of tune here. KH
