I must admit to liking the way that ‘The Bridge’ trips over itself, the beats so lively and engaging and a match for a singer who has a sparkle in the eye the way that most of us couldn’t even conceive of mustering. In the process Iceland’s Ari Arelius remind very much of early Gomez (and Alfie), the Mercury Music winning version wherein the blues/folk were amalgamated into a sound that felt more attuned to a younger audience. ‘The Bridge’ is vitality on record, mischievousness and creating an off-kilter Friday night student disco anthem in the process. Love it. KH
