Of course they were always going to appeal to our lo-fi jangle pop from the 90’s loving side and with ‘Lighter Blue’ ticking every box and boasting a ferocious heart into the bargain Young Scum caused a riot of romantic proportions in our otherwise ordinary day. Sure it sounds like we’ve heard it before but that doesn’t stop us from wanting to hear it all over and over again. The playing is particularly ebullient and all set off by a singer who knows how to drop a harmony to rival the chiming drama happening all around. Teenage Fanclub at their peak chiming selves (also some ‘Mersey Paradise’ Stone Roses), but Richmond doing the hosting rather than Glasgow. KH
