Oh you old romantic you I said to myself as ‘Toxic’ greeted us with a bed of jangle and the most grief stricken singer. And what a lovely combination they make, light and airy and heavy burdened but keeping us on the line because around every corner is a chorus so flush with dream pop turns it makes like we’re feeling love for the first time all over again. Quite contrary to the reaction you’d expect for something called ‘Toxic’ but that is the magic of LA’s Small Shake. A stroll hand in hand set to music, like the Sundays and the Cranberries used to do back in the good old days. KH
