Maya Ruth – Oblivion

Reminded me of ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries to a degree, the fuzzed up loaded chords but thankfully Maya Ruth shows a bit more than that abomination by actually filling ‘Oblivion’ with more than a semblence of melody. It is experimental in its own way too, swaying this way and that as if drunk on all the noisy action in the riffs so that we get to near live experience. This is a messy sort of noise, ramshackle even but somehow from the wreckage emerges something glorious. Only Maya Ruth’s second ever release, a statement of intent if ever there was one. KH
