Sounds to me as if Brooklyn’s Russian Baths have thrown the kitchen sink at it, with ‘Hunger’ a rampaging collection of noise that forms a cohesive nineties whole. The kind of experimental endeavour that gathers and regathers time and again when things get a little too tangled in knots. There is plenty My Bloody Valentine so understandably shoegaze fans are likely to be awoken from a long hibernation. And what a glorious racket in which to greet a new season for ‘Hunger’ is baiting for our full attention through a myriad of directions that all point to a honeypot of rabid joy. When I closed my eyes I heard Swervedriver. KH
