Exuberant is how I’d describe it for ‘The Dance’ has all the hallmarks of a folk troupe who have left the leash far behind and instead want to make like Los Campesinos! and Bis and Tap Tap and Beirut had a love child. In other words it is straining at the hip to be a new voice amid all the old and tired musical presentations of 2024. London’s Pushpin make it so that the track moves between the gears and the genres to create something even Clinic might struggle to have conceived. A perfect piece of craziness and the best thing is that it throws the flotilla of brass at us when we least expect it. I couldn’t tame it or my attendant joyful heart palpitations. Time to let yourself go. KH
