Does feel rather tropical at first, before mid take us down a more jangle chord led route to remind of the Byrds but only if they were led by a broken hearted bard. To be fair to this singer he can keep the wheels turning even if they threaten to come off the chariot that is his love life. What keeps the show on the road however is a turn of melodic intent that tells us for all the tweeness there is a lovely lament at play here and one that has been enriched by the sucrose effects of cupid’s arrow. A timeless feel and so ‘Elisa’ could have arrived from 1974 as easily as 2024. KH
