There was bit of Damien Rice going on for sure, a little Nick Drake too and perhaps leaning in the latter’s direction because of the orchestration and vocal tact. ‘Aida’ makes for such an evocative few minutes as a result – not least because of the subject matter of domestic abuse. Jonathan Hodges creates a pristine sound, subtle and minimalist but powerful as can be. The chemistry between the two singers is true and ‘Aida’ is a lesson to us all to seek out those who can get that inner fire lighting again. There will be tears spilled to Bomethius alright and even my ancient collection of bones felt that way inclined. KH
