Sean Waters & the Sunrise Genius – Cathedral Pines

I was at once bracing myself because there was a sense of dread to ‘Cathedral Pines’, a vulnerability that is perfectly recognisable for those who have felt that similar feeling at some point. That Colorado’s Sean Waters is able to conjure it with the minimal of ingredients just shows the art of song comes easy for a select few. There is beauty here, one that has the listener downing tools because sometimes a fragile beauty is the only thing in the world to teach us what we could lose unless we appreciate what we have. The whistling is Andrew Bird like but for the most part this is floating romance that dispatches nuggets of advice for all and sundry. KH
