What a relaxed work this is, tumbling down with a proper feeling of devil may care attitude. And it struck a chord with me because it illustrates an act with the nous and the attitude to stand apart and crucially in the case of the characters involved stand up for itself. When you get to the bottom of it Paper Ashtray just want to be loved like the rest of us and progressing to act two shows us that there is plenty stirring in their loins in that pursuit. ‘Not Me’ is illuminating fare, the love song rebranded with all the glitter and emotion to get the rest of us shaken into romantic action as a result. A fine debut all told. KH
