The Sound of Mountains – Heal My Rage

Of course we’ve been here before when it comes to post-rock so it takes a track with a bit of something different to persuade us over the great rock instrumental to have us staring blissfully and in awe into the middle distance. And the great news is that ‘Heal My Rage’ has succeeded by painting emotions through the delicate flickering ambition of a serious of pretty shimmering chords. As you’d expected there is an alter ego and it comes in the descent into a more intense reading from the Sound of Mountains. But this is no unexpected crescendo, instead ‘Heal My Rage’ builds to a higher temperature subtly so we are taken along on its warm current of tender swirls. Christopher Morin drives proceedings and in the process we are reminded why we fell in love with Mogwai circa their ‘Ten Rapid’ collection all those years ago. KH
