I think it is Brendan Benson circa his ‘Lapalco’ that ‘Soft in the Mind’ reminds me of most and that is a high compliment for there is a rock and pop hybrid operating here so it never gets too gritty, never too saccharine and just boasts the right balance of retro fascination to ensure Nashville’s Glenn Thomas’s song sounds shiny and new in 2023. Most of all I was taken by it because it has such a happy disposition and one that will help any day to circumnavigate the pitfalls along the way. ‘Soft in the Mind’ is a cute little nugget that comes in under the magic 3 minutes.
